57th Parochial Fiesta of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish: A Celebration of Peace with Christ at the Center
OBRERO, DAVAO CITY — The Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish joyfully celebrated its 57th Parochial Fiesta on June 12, 2026. This special day carried a deeper meaning as it coincided with both the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Philippines’ Independence Day. Because of this, the celebration beautifully connected faith, freedom, and unity, reminding everyone of the importance of both spiritual and national identity.
The theme for this year, inspired by Colossians 3:15, “Let the peace of Christ control your hearts,” invited parishioners to reflect on the importance of Christ’s peace in their daily lives. In a world filled with challenges, the message encouraged everyone to remain rooted in faith and to become instruments of peace in their communities.
The feast of the Sacred Heart is also recognized by the Church as the World Day of Prayer for the Sanctification of Priests. This gave the celebration a deeper spiritual purpose, reminding the faithful to pray for priests who dedicate their lives to guiding the Church. Parishioners expressed their gratitude and support for their spiritual leaders through prayers and participation in the activities.
In preparation for the fiesta, the parish organized several meaningful activities that strengthened both faith and community spirit. One of these was the Panaw-duaw, a 20-day pastoral visit to 20 Gagmay’ng Kristohanong Katilingban (GKKs). Led by Rev. Fr. Victor Isodoro G. Gilay, this activity allowed families and communities to gather in prayer and experience the presence of the Church in their own neighborhoods. It helped build stronger relationships among parishioners and deepened their faith.
Another important activity was the start of the Novena on June 3. Each day began with catechesis, during which teachings on the faith were shared, followed by novena prayers and the Holy Mass. This helped parishioners better understand their devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and prepared them spiritually for the fiesta.
The parish also conducted several outreach programs that reflected faith in action, namely bloodletting and Operation Tuli. A Medical Mission was also conducted, offering free health services including consultations, bone scans, blood sugar testing, uric acid testing, ECGs, eye check-ups, and free medicines. This program benefited many people, especially those without easy access to healthcare. The success of this activity was made possible through the support of different partners, medical professionals, and generous sponsors. Supported by various organizations, this initiative highlighted the parish’s concern for the health and well-being of the youth.
One of the most touching moments of the celebration was the Amansibado Wedding, where six couples received the sacrament of marriage. This joyful event strengthened family life in the parish and reminded everyone of the sacredness of marriage.
The highlight of the fiesta was the Solemn Pontifical Mass on June 12, presided over by Archbishop Romulo G. Valles. In his homily, he shared three important messages. First, he reminded the faithful that God’s love is always present in the Eucharist. Second, he encouraged everyone to express this love through service and sacrifice. Lastly, he emphasized that love gives life meaning and should guide every Christian. Earlier that day, a solemn procession was held, led by the 20 GKKs under the parish. Each community carried its respective patron, reflecting a united expression of faith and devotion as they journeyed together in celebration.
After the Mass, a significant event followed the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish and Holy Cross of Davao College. This partnership aims to strengthen cooperation in education, service, and community development. It also highlights the importance of working together to form individuals who are not only knowledgeable but also responsible and faithful.
The celebration continued in the evening with Fiesta Night ’26, held at the parish grounds. This event brought together families, friends, and visitors in a joyful gathering filled with music, cultural presentations, and performances. It was not only a time for entertainment but also a celebration of unity and belonging.
Fiesta Night showed that the Church is not only a place of worship but also a community where people come together as one family. It created an atmosphere of joy, laughter, and gratitude, strengthening the bond among parishioners.
Overall, the 57th Parochial Fiesta was a meaningful celebration of faith in action. From spiritual activities to community outreach and joyful gatherings, every event reflected the love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The celebration reminded everyone that true faith is not only expressed in prayer but also in service, unity, and love for one another.
As the parish moves forward, the spirit of the fiesta continues to inspire the community to live out Christ’s peace each day. Indeed, the celebration was not just a one-day event, but a lasting reminder that faith, when shared and lived together, becomes a powerful force for transformation.
