Don’t be Afraid
The gospel (Mt. 10:26-33) last Sunday, June 21, 2026 was a reminder for us to trust God in times when we are afraid. Jesus told His disciples to not be afraid three times. At first, He told them to be bold in sharing His gospel, the second one was to be courageous in times of persecution and lastly He assured them that they are much more valuable than sparrows.
The above assurances are very timely for all of us at this time where we are experiencing calamities like earthquakes, floodings, wars, and also societal and political problems. With all of these happenings we feel uncertain for our lives and future. But the Lord is telling us to be still for I am with you (Psalm 46.10). It’s nice to know that we have a God to turn to who is in control of everything. But human as we are we often forget and thus feel overwhelm. More so, as we are bombarded by a lot of information most specially on social media, rather than helping us it then fuels our mind to be fearful and makes us anxious.
The Lord is telling us to be unafraid and trustful in His love for He careth for us (1 Peter 5:7). Let us call unto the Lord in times when we are afraid. Just like Jesus when he felt uncertain, He isolates Himself and pray to God the Father (Luke 6:12). We can also do that, go to church and attend the Eucharistic celebration or even in our own altars and offer a prayer to God and lay down our fears.
Lord, thank you for your great love as we put our trust in you. Send forth the Holy Spirit in times of fear. Mama Mary, cover us always with your mantle of protection. This we pray in Jesus mighty name, Amen.
