Why I Joined the School Band
When I was in second year high school, my best friend and I decided to join the school band.
To be honest, my friend had the talent. He had a good ear for music and fit right in.
As for me… well, my reason was a little different.
The school band had several beautiful majorettes. They treated the two of us like their little brothers, always looking after us and making us feel welcome.
But if I’m going to tell the whole truth, there was another reason we never admitted back then.
We enjoyed watching them in their colorful band uniforms.
That was enough motivation for two teenage boys to attend practices faithfully!
Of course, our admiration was innocent. We were simply young boys discovering the world around us, and the school band became one of the happiest parts of our high school life.
Looking back now, I laugh at how simple our reasons were. Sometimes we think our decisions are driven by great dreams or noble ambitions. But every now and then, they begin with something as ordinary—and as amusing—as a couple of teenage boys joining the school band because they thought the majorettes looked beautiful in their uniforms.
Youth has a way of giving us memories that grow funnier with every passing year. (Jesse Hipolito)
