National Heroes

Hero comes from a Greek word meaning a person of great courage and known for his exploits. The last 100 years have produced fewer heroes known for their sacrifices and their principles. Yet there are more heroes today who are not known and will never be honored. Our parents worked all their lives so we can finish college and find a job. Workers from mailmen, policemen, doctors, nurses, teachers, the servants of God from priests, nuns, brothers, catechists, missionaries do their jobs daily tirelessly for the good of our community.

They pay taxes, help others in need, follow the law and take good care of their families. Our parents and workers in the government and in the private sector do this back breaking, heartaching and courageous efforts hoping that things will be better for their children.

Sadly they are bombarded daily on TV, social media, and newspapers about corruption. They know corruption weakens the zeal, dedication and hopes of the people. Yet they keep on working. Faith, hope and love can only be shown by prayerful and honest living.

This is what our heroes of today are doing. Corruption is the devil’s creation. Today’s heroes are brave enough to resist the temptations of the devil. They know that God is Kind and merciful, quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to anger. But they also know that it is bad to disobey the Lord. They believe that the Lord will reward the honest, the Kind, and merciful. We believe that God will save the good and punish those who wallow in corruption.
