Altar Servers Month 2026 St John Paul II Parish

ALTAR SERVERS MONTH 2026: “Life with Christ is a wonderful adventure.” — St. John Paul II

The Knights of the Altar Ministry of St. John Paul II Parish joyfully celebrated Altar Servers Month 2026 throughout the month of August under the theme, “Life with Christ is a wonderful adventure.” Inspired by the words of St. John Paul II, the celebration reminded every altar server that serving Christ is not merely a responsibility, but a beautiful journey of faith, friendship, growth, and joyful service.

The ministry of the Altar Servers is a noble vocation that calls young people to serve Christ faithfully through the Sacred Liturgy. Beyond serving at the altar, every altar server is invited to deepen their spiritual life, cultivate discipline, develop leadership, and strengthen the spirit of brotherhood within the ministry. With this in mind, the month-long celebration was organized to foster spiritual growth, creativity, camaraderie, and healthy competition among all members. The activities were also designed to inspire altar servers to emulate the virtues of their patron saints, appreciate the dignity of their ministry, and strengthen their commitment to serving God and His Church with excellence.

The celebration began with the Individual Pictorial of the members of the Knights of the Altar Ministry. The official portraits recognized each altar server as an important member of the ministry and served as a visual representation of their commitment to the service of the Church.

On August 23, 2026, the altar servers gathered at St. John Paul II Parish for their Formation Session, centered on the theme “Life with Christ is a wonderful adventure.” — St. John Paul II. The formation was facilitated by Ms. Diana Mae Torres, who served as the resource speaker for the session. The formation provided the altar servers with an opportunity to deepen their faith, reflect on their vocation, and better understand their responsibilities in serving at the altar. Through the insights and guidance shared by the speaker, the participants were encouraged to see their ministry not simply as a duty, but as an invitation to grow closer to Christ and live out their faith both inside and outside the church.

The same day marked the deadline for the Vocation Promotion Video-Making Competition, with entries submitted online. The members were divided into four teams namely, St. Tarcisius, St. Dominic Savio, San Lorenzo Ruiz, and San Pedro Calungsod. Working in groups, the altar servers used their creativity and talents in media evangelization to share their understanding of vocation and the beauty of serving Christ. Through their productions, they were encouraged to communicate their faith and inspire others through their own experiences as young people in the ministry.

The celebration reached one of its most anticipated activities on August 29, 2026, with the Altar Servers Lolek’s Cup 2026, held at Los Amigos National High School. Various sports was organized which includes: basketball, volleyball, badminton, chess, and Mobile Legends (eSports). Through sports and recreational competitions, the altar servers strengthened their friendship, teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. More than the results of the games, the Lolek’s Cup provided a joyful opportunity for the members to build stronger bonds and experience the spirit of brotherhood within the ministry. At the end of the Altar Servers Lolek’s Cup 2026, the team of San Pedro Calungsod was hailed as the Overall Champion, followed by the St. Tarcicius Team as the First Runner-up, St. Dominic Savio as the Second Runner-up, and San Lorenzo Ruiz as the Third Runner-up.

Finally, on August 30, 2026, the celebration concluded with a Thanksgiving Mass at St. John Paul II Parish. Gathering around the Eucharistic table, the altar servers offered their gratitude to God for the blessings, experiences, friendships, and opportunities received throughout the celebration. The Holy Mass fittingly became the culmination of the month, bringing everyone back to the very heart and center of their ministry, the Holy Eucharist and service to Christ.

The celebration reminded every altar server that their vocation is a continuing journey. The activities may have come to an end, but the adventure of living and serving with Christ continues. Indeed, life with Christ is a wonderful adventure, and for every altar server, that adventure continues. (Rean Pan)
