Living Water, Growing Life: Mangrove Planting and Living Water Forum Held in Lasang

Environmental advocates, youth, and community members gathered in Lasang, Davao City, on September 26, 2026, for a series of environmental activities, including mangrove planting and the Living Water Forum, an initiative of the Archdiocese of Davao.

The activities were part of the Season of Creation 2026, which focused on environmental stewardship and the protection of water and coastal ecosystems.

The day began with the celebration of the Holy Mass, presided over by Rev. Fr. Jemasol R. Ortiz, DCD, and Rev. Fr. Edsel J. Paloma, DCD. The Mass was followed by the signing of the official memorandum and then blessing of mangrove plants.

Participants then joined the mangrove planting activity, planting mangrove seedlings along the coast as part of efforts to protect and restore coastal ecosystems.

Following the planting activity, participants gathered for the Living Water Forum, which provided a venue for discussions and reflections on the importance of water and the responsibility of communities in caring for the environment.

Charlie Modequillo, Archdiocesan Desk for the Care of Creation (ADCC) Coordinator, and Jessie A. Madulin, PSAM Coordinator, highlighted the connection between water, communities, livelihoods, and the environment, encouraging participants to recognize the importance of responsible environmental stewardship.

The activities brought together prayer, environmental action, and community learning, highlighting the role of collective participation in caring for creation. (Kyla Jean Malacaman | Photos: Kyla Villas)
