A Night of Fun and Laughter to Celebrate the Special Year of St. Francis

On October 2, 2026, St. Francis of Assisi Parish Ma-a celebrated the Socio Cultural Night with its theme, the World of Dance: Dancing to the Franciscan Joy. The festivity started at 5:30 PM in the Ma-a Central Elementary School Gymnasium.

Ministries under the worship ministry showcased their dance presentations: Latin Dance – Liturgical Arts Ministry, Retro Pop Dance – Lectors and Commentators, Hip-Hop Dance – Music Ministry, Hawaiian Dance – Lay Ministers, Cheer Dance – Knights of the Altar, Philippine Festival Dance – Pangulo sa Liturhiya, and K-Pop Dance – Gift Bearers.

The three judges of the dance contest are Mr. Arnold Alvarez – Artistic Director, Sining Tala of St. John Paull II College of Davao; Ms. Rhodesia Alcantara – MAED – PE Program Chairperson, Bachelor of Physical Education; and Fr. Christopher Alcayde, SThL – Formator and Professor of Theology of the St. Francis Xavier Regional Major Seminary of Mindanao.

After all seven presentations, the winners were announced. First Place – Lay Ministers, Second Place – Pangulo sa Liturhiya, and Third Place – Knights of the Altar. All 45 GKK representatives under the parish attended and watched the night festivity despite the rain.

This year’s celebration is quite different as the entire Catholic Church celebrates the special year of St. Francis of Assisi’s 800 years of entry to heaven. All seven performances of worship ministry reflected upon St. Francis’ spirit of humility, joy, fraternity, and joyful service. (Photos: Maa Parish SoCCom)
