Malacanang Playing Games

BEYOND LIMITS — With all the  incompetence it has shown over these years,  including  the violation of the Constitution in the handling of public funds,    Malacanang still has the temerity to give the public the impression that its present occupants want to  extend  their  stay in office beyond the constitutional limits.    Either they think Filipinos are simpletons so they can play games on us.  Or they are on Cloud 9 and they are just  fooling their own selves.

NO TO TERM EXTENSION — The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has come out openly against the amendment of the Constitution for the extension of another term for President Aquino. Now the bishops are no longer ambivalent about it.

NATIONAL TRANFORMATION — Several bishops and religious and lay  leaders recently met and came out with an “alternative reform” agenda. They are calling for the immediate resignation  of President Aquino  and the installation of a so-called  National Tranformation Commission that will temporarily run the country as the reforms are being set in place. This is an interesting alternative to the nation. Let’s watch this.

NO TO CON-ASS — While I am strongly in favor of constitutional amendments to institute deep reforms, let’s do this by convening a constitutional convention (CON-CON) and electing delegates. Yes, it may take time and more expense. But please,  don’t leave this in the hands of Congressmen and Senators  via a  constituent assembly or CON-ASS. Sorry to say but precisely  because I had been congressman before myself,  I will not entrust this noble task of reforming society to politicians like us.

ONE YEAR NEGLECT — It will be one year this month of September  since the infamous  Zamboanga City siege happened.  But the thousands of victims and “bakwits” are still languishing, suffering and dying at the    city’s sports stadium area up to this day.  Victims of conflict ought to take utmost priority in government intervention. This is criminal neglect by government. In the first place, the  carnage and the tremendous social cost of the siege, especially to the poor “masa”  could have been avoided if Malacanang knew better.

MAMA MARY BDAY — Monday, September 8 is Mama Mary’s birthday. Let’s pray to her for a better world, a better country and a better you and me!
