A Finite Life

There’s no gainsaying the fact that however much we may wish to extend the span of our life it still remains a mortal life. We just have to thank and glorify the Lord for whatever span of life He may deign to give us. The physical part of man tends to decay and death, though his soul is immortal.

Let us be grateful to God for whatever years of life He may deign to give us, let us spend it in gratitude and in a life of thanksgiving for the gift of life and many other graces, especially the grace of having known His beloved Son Jesus Christ and His Church.

As the Catechism has taught us about the purpose of our life: to know, love, and serve God in this world and to be happy with Him in the next. Yes, earthly life is finite. All of us can hear the bells in Church when they sound during funeral rites of departed loved ones.
