Blessed Mary mothers day

Honoring our Mothers and the Blessed Mother

Blessed Mary mothers dayToday, the second Sunday of May, Mother’s Day is being celebrated in many parts of the world. This is a time not only to honor our mothers but also to appreciate and recognize the role and influence of mothers in shaping the minds and hearts of their children, particularly in cultivating faith and trust in God.

Many celebrate Mother’s Day by spending the day with their mothers, giving them gifts, cards, flowers, treating them with their favorite food. But while all these may make our mothers feel special, we should also caution against riding the commercial bandwagon lest we forget the significance of the day: the celebration of motherhood.

As it is also the month of May, the month especially dedicated to Our Blessed Mother, it is but fitting that we pay homage as well and express our faith and love to the Mother of God. To express our devotion to her, we can pray the Rosary with our hearts and offer it to her as our gift, make little sacrifices in her honor, and go on pilgrimages and churches dedicated to her.

We also thank the Lord for giving us Mary who did not hesitate to give her “Yes” to the angel and, by doing so, made possible the coming of the Messiah and changed the course of history. We therefore ask the Blessed Mother to intercede for all mothers that they be given the grace of self-giving love and, like her, be a source of blessing, peace, and love in their homes and communities.
