“I know there were lots of difficulties along the way. It is life, it’s not easy. If there are difficulties that means we are really following Christ. Where there is a cross, Christ is there present which is why we should embrace the crosses in life.”

Prevailing life’s challenges and emerging inspiring, Sr. Lorna B. Murillo, P.M. strove to pursue her dreams until they became true. She used to be a working student to support her college education.

“I am the eldest child in our family. My father was hesitant about sending me to college because of poverty but I really insisted to study so I decided to become a working student.”

Sister Lorna studied Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English. After successfully finishing college, she became a teacher. Surprisingly, she only got baptized as she was already teaching in a Catholic school. She began to study Catholic religion. She came to Davao on May 13, 1989. On June 1989 she was accepted as a postulant. Eventually, she became a Presentation of Mary sister and is in touch with the Columban Sisters. Her biggest inspirations to enter the religious life were her unforgettable passionate director and friend, her supportive and loving mother and her father whom she is very grateful to.

So far, Sister Lorna was assigned to different schools such as Holy Cross of Mintal as school director for 4 years, Notre Dame of Mlang in Cotabato City as director for one year, Holy Cross of Malalag as school principal for 4 years, St. Peter’s College of Toril as the Dean of College for 2 years and she is currently the school director of Holy Cross College of Calinan.

Sister Lorna had numerous incredible experiences in her life wherein she emphasized the presence of God that He is really working. From having been pointed a gun, riding a dump truck while crying and soaked in heavy rain to experiencing a zero visibility flight; there were many more. One thing is for sure, all throughout these experiences, she saw God. These experiences made her the lovely, humble and strong woman she is today inspiring many; especially working students just like her who have the courage to make their dreams turn into reality.

As for the future, she has plenty of plans for Holy Cross College of Calinan as school director and that includes foremost consistently making Jesus Christ known and loved. (Teresa Marie P. Dumandan)
