ALS AMONG INMATES

ALS implemented in Davao City Jail

ALS AMONG INMATESEducation is for all.

All human beings have the right to acquire knowledge regardless of their status in life.

For the inmates of Maa City Jail, this is very real. They may be bound with prison bars, yet their desire to learn still continues. Prison cells may keep them from going to school and study just like a regular student, the eager inmates still pursued their dream of finishing school through enrolling to the Alternative Learning System (ALS).

One of the activities during the celebration of the National Correctional Consciousness Week 2015 was the Education Day which was handled by the Inmates Welfare and Development – Alternative Learning System Unit of the Davao City Jail, headed by its Instructional Manager Head, JO2 Sherwinkit A. Academia together with BJMP Personnel JO1 Alma O. Arguelles, JO1 Quirino Lopez and JO1 Harold Argomido.

The said unit took charge of developing the competencies in listening, speaking, reading, and writing among inmate learners. The IWD – ALS Unit tied up with the Department of Education, represented by the Test Registration Officers, Elizabeth T. Forro, Marianita M. Corpuz, Crestita C. Bation and Alicia Q, Dabalos.

The Bureau also has four major areas of rehabilitation, educational and vocational trainings, recreation, and sports and religious activities. These are continuously implemented to eliminate offenders’ pattern of criminal behaviour, and to reform them to become law abiding and productive citizens. (Adz Mon)
