Pope Francis

This is just the third year of Pope Francis and yet he has already traveled more than 30,000 miles all over the world. So far, he has been to Asia, North and South America and Africa. He seemed to be a restless missionary like his namesake St. Francis, who 500 years ago brought Catholicism to many parts of the world.

It seems also that in his travels, he is gently reminding the clergy in the places that he had been to that they should review, renew, and improve their efforts. Evangelizing is one thing. Making sure that the flock will not jump to other pastures or be indifferent is another thing. Visiting the frontliners right where the action is will inspire the local church that the Vicar of Christ has not forgotten them and will never abandon them.

Pope Francis is a witness of the joy of the gospel brought about by God’s infinite mercy. He is a Pope who calls the Church to go to the periphery.
