In the Light of Suffering

davao bombingIn the history of man, killings and bloodshed may be considered as abandonment of God. But that should not be the case. Scriptures and Tradition would attest that God always tries to reach out to man. He has plans for mankind. He knows what is best for his people. But because God gifted man with freedom and free will, many times, however, man says no to Him. Thus, the world become witnesses of countless moral evils that fill every human experience.

But then again, Christ atoned for our sins. He took upon our sins and showed the way to the Father (St. Paul). In the drama of the Cross, the greatest of all evil turned out to be the greatest good. In a tragic scene, our Lady quietly bore the sufferings of her Son at the foot of the Cross, prayerfully trusting God. His eventual resurrection became the victory of the world.

As Davao City grieves for those who were fallen during the September 2 bombing, let us offer to God and to Mother Mary the souls of those departed and offer a prayer too that the perpetrators will soon fall in the long arm of the law. Let us not consider this bloodshed as abandonment of God. Let us instead, believe that God is reaching out to His people to rise up with Him.
