Stella Maris subscribes to DC Herald

The Stella Maris Academy of Davao (SMAD) started its subscription to Davao Catholic Herald Newspaper in July 2016. The school has been receiving the newspaper monthly for its Grade 8 to Grade 11 sections. The newspaper is being circulated from the Pastoral Office to the CL teachers, different offices, coordinators, and even to the guards, as well.

According to Fatima Amor Montcon, the School’s Pastoral Coordinator, the subscription to DC Herald newspaper is a great avenue to spread the religious and spiritual news to the students.

“The students became more aware of the happenings in the local churches and they also became interested in reading the newspaper because of its positive and encouraging news stories” said Montcon.

Melona Aleria, Christian Living teacher said that despite difficulty in understanding the whole context of Cebuano articles, students are still doing their best to know and understand the meaning of each word. “During my Christian Living class, I make sure to explain to my students the articles which are written in Cebuano and after, I let them make a reflection to be written in their journals. I also include God’s Word puzzle in my exams and activities. Personally, it’s so heart moving for me to see that my students are being motivated in reading the word of God.”

The Pastoral Office is looking forward to have a wider scope of disseminating the Herald newspaper in school and hopeful that it would be circulated to all High School’s sections. (Gladys Shane Valdez | HCDC intern)
