Undivided Unity

Editorial Trinity“O Most Holy Trinity, Undivided Unity, Holy God, Mighty God, God immortal be adored” (Hymn 13, Christian Prayer Book)

It is from these lyrics of the hymn that the title was inspired. It directly describes to us the unity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. St. Augustine claimed this as the “beauty so ancient yet so new.” This is, “the mystery of the Most Holy Trinity which is the central mystery of Christian faith and life.” (c/o CCC 234)

Though a mystery, but it is revealed to us. “The Father revealed by the Son.” “The Father and the Son revealed by the Holy Spirit.” (c/o CCC 238, 243)

For this reason, “from the beginning, the revealed truth of the Holy Trinity has been at the very root of the Church’s loving faith.” (c/o CCC 249)

What is the relevance of this undivided unity of the Trinity to our situation these days?

There is so much experience of division and chaos that led people to struggle and to suffer.

The people of the island of Mindanao at present are divided because of rebellious acts that particularly hit many parts of the island. It caused chaotic feelings among the people. Many are homeless. Many are struggling for food. Many are separated from their families and loved ones, from their works and from their livelihood.

When President Duterte declared Martial Law for the island of Mindanao on May 24, 2017, many were afraid. Many are questioning about the possible effects that might come.

“O Most Holy Trinity, undivided unity” help us and save us. This is our prayer.

Jesus, the Son in the Gospel of John, chapter 17, prays for the unity of His flock, “that they may be one as you and I are one…”

When together we pray, that’s also the time we claim that this unity of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit becomes relevant to us. Our united effort for peace and unity would have force and power when together we claim and pray for the help of our Triune God.

This is also the greatest assurance that God our Father has expressed to us. In the Gospel of John 3:16 it says, “for God so loved the world that He gave us His only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Thus, the Trinity is our central point of CONVERGENCE. The undivided unity of the Trinity would surely bring the people undivided in its action and prayer for unity and peace.
