Davao’s Catholic Radio Station: Channel of faith through tough times (Last Part)
It was a very challenging task for a young priest like Fr. Ritsche J. Gamaya, DCD who was appointed in 2011 as Davao Catholic Herald newspaper’s editor in chief and at the same time, radio station manager—without a radio station!
But this reality did not stop him from scouting media consultants who journeyed with him in the last six years. The support of the Catholic Media Network headed by Fr. Francis Lucas and some employees and volunteers greatly helped him in finalizing the plan to revive DXGN.
Feasibility study, business plans and media surveys were presented to the Board of Trustees, Davao clergy and concerned groups. After four years of countless meetings and of raising initial capital to purchase set of graded equipment, DXGN went on-air on a test broadcast in December 2015.
Last June 13, 2016, in time for the feast of St. Anthony de Padua, patron saint of the lost, the local church of Davao found again its ground to reopen its radio station as a medium for evangelization.
Celebrating its one year last month, our Catholic radio station continue to spread the hope to all especially “those who are in the peripheries.” Our on-air facility and online streaming are targeted to reach varied, wider audience.
With high hopes, DXGN Spirit FM-Davao will be here to stay.
