4Oth convention of HNS held in Tagaytay

Mati City – Eleven members of the Holy Name Society (HNS) of the San Nicolas de Tolentino Cathedral Parish, here in the Diocese of Mati, Davao Oriental, attended the annual convention of the Holy Name Society of the Philippines at the Betania Retreat House in Tagaytay City, last May 3-5, 2013.

The delegates were headed by Sis Thelma C. Tajore, HNS Adviser, the officers– Bro. Cupertino T. Obguia, HNS President, Bro Lucio G. Jabilles, 1st Vice President, Sis Annabelle T. Ortega, 2nd Vice President, Sis Lourdes M. Galon, Treasurer, Sis Monica D. Matangcas , Secreatary, with members—Sis Richel A. Zaspa, Sis Imelda E. Albacite, Sis Elenita J. Jabilles, and also with two members of the Junior Holy Namers, namely, Sis Chel Angelie A. Zaspa and Bro. Christian Marc C. Tajore.

Theme for this 40th Annual Convention was: “STRENGTHENING THE CHRISTIAN FAITH THROUGH EVENGELIZATION”, adopted from the theme of the assembly of the Synod of Bishops which is: “THE NEW EVANGELIZATION FOR THE TRANSMISSION OF THE CHRISTIAN FAITH”.

The second day was devoted to listening to a series of talks centering on the theme as well as to inspirational messages on the HNS spirit. Speaking on the theme were two dominican priests—Rev. Fr. Enrico D. Gonzales, OP and Rev. Fr. Quirico T. Pedrogosa, Jr, OP as resource persons; while touching words and experiences to keep the HNS spirit alive were shared by HNS National Promoter and Director Rev. Fr. Edgardo D. Alaurin, OP, and HNS National President Bro. Laureano R. Culala Jr.

Sis Lourdes Galon, Mati media coordinator, commented in a casual interview with the radio news team that “all of the 11 from Mati found the event very enriching and memorable as it challenged plans to serve more actively in varied missions for evangelization, and it was also a rare privilege to visit and enjoy beautiful landscapes while we get to know more of each of the members from the different Dioceses.”
