ADDU Graduate Tops May 2013 CPA Board Exam

RICHARD B. SAAVEDRA, a BS Accountancy graduate cum laude (Batch 2012) of Ateneo De Davao University, topped the May 2013 Certified Public Accountant Licensure Examination. He obtained an average rating of 96%.

A consistent dean’s lister, Mr. Saavedra was the 2nd runner up in the PICPA-ACPACI National Search for Outstanding Accounting Students in the Philippines in 2011-12 (with 20 grand finalists from a field of 260 contestants nationwide). He won in various inter-school accounting competitions and placed first in the 2012 ADDU Mock CPA Board Exam.

Prior to proceeding to BS Accountancy as his second course in June 2009, he finished BS Nursing also at ADDU in March 2007. He placed 6th in the December 2007 Nursing Licensure Examination.

This is the first time that a graduate of ADDU or any school in the Davao region got the number 1 spot in the Philippine CPA board exam. Since 2008, the Accountancy Department of ADDU has produced four (4) topnotchers : Raymond Christian S. Ong Abrantes (9th placer, October 2008 exam), Joseph Albert J. Bulao (3rd placer, October 2009 exam), Elfin Kenneth S. Puentespina (6th placer, October 2011 exam) and now Richard Saavedra, 1st placer.

ADDU has 24 passers out of 51 examinees, or a passing percentage of 47.06%. The national passing rate is 27.41% (1,553 passers out of 5,665 examinees). ADDU has the highest number of passers and the highest passing percentage among the eight schools offering Accountancy in the Davao region.
