Davao Catholic Herald and Social Media

“Social networking sites, like Facebook and Twitter, aren’t a virtual world we can ignore, but rather a very real world we must engage if we want to spread the faith to the next generation.” –Benedict XVI

Today, we are entering a new era of media where social and digital network connections truly are transforming how the world communicates, how business is conducted and how people live their lives.

From Facebook’s one billion active users (and still counting) to Twitter’s at least 400 million daily tweets, these networks have had a massive impact on people around the world.

It may not have one universal purpose especially for us a heralds of good news while social media has brought us together. In the Social Media Ministry under the Social Communications and Mass Media of the Archdiocese of Davao, the social media platform will evolve in one dynamic core which is composed of three key aspects: the JOURNALISM, the TECHNOLOGY and the HEART TO EVANGELIZE.

The digital environment is not a parallel or purely virtual world, but is part of the daily experience of many people, especially the young,”Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI said in his messagelast January this year. “Social networks are the result of human interaction, but for their part they also reshape the dynamics of communication which builds relationships: a considered understanding of this environment is therefore the prerequisite for a significant presence there.”

Davao Catholic Herald, with its online presence today using the latest trend in technology, is ever-since dedicated in proclaiming the Good News of our Lord, both offline (print) and now online (social media).
