Energy saving tips for college students

Freshmen and other college students staying in boarding houses or apartments can maximize the use of their allowance for school projects and daily necessities by following some simple tips on saving electricity.

Davao Light and Power Co. lists down simple energy efficiency tips that will help college students save.

  • When picking a location to live for college, get a place close to campus. This way you can walk or ride a ‘padyak’ instead of driving to school.
  • If your apartment has an air conditioner,  clean the air filter every month. Air conditioner will be able to run more efficiently with a cleaner air filter. Also, don’t leave it on while you are away.
  • In the morning, reading and writing may be done near a window or even outside, whichever is your preference. In this way, lights will only be used when the sun sets.
  • If living with a roommate, try to consolidate and invest in one refrigerator or TV, or both. Locate it in a common area that both of you will have access.
  • If you do the laundry by your own, set a schedule within the week for washing. Usually, Wednesdays are schools’ wash day. Same goes with ironing clothes.
  • Before leaving the apartment for school break, make sure to unplug all lightings and electric appliances.

Being independent hones one to become a better person. And the first step to achieve this is to start with the simplest things like energy-saving.  (@dcherald w/PR)
