‘Mary brings us to Christ’

Seeing the number of people gathered together and attending the procession of the different images of Mama Mary, Archbishop Romulo G. Valles quipped that Mary must be happy seeing them and making true the statement: “Pueblo amante de Maria.”

Some 3000 men and women gathered for the National Day of Consecration to the Heart of Mary celebration, June 9, at the Ateneo de Davao University Matina Campus and later joined in the Mass officiated by Abp. Valles at the San Pedro Cathedral.

In his homily, Abp. Valles said it is a beautiful opportunity to profess one’s faith. Mary must be happy seeing her children focus their attention to her.

“Mary brings us to Jesus,” Abp. Valles said, adding that “Our devotion brings us to Jesus. Without Jesus, the Immaculate Heart of Mary is nothing.”

Abp. Valles likens one’s heart to a radio that has to be fine-tuned to receive the signal clearly, adding that one’s heart should be consecrated to Mary whose immaculate heart was ready to say yes to the Lord.

He also said one’s heart should be like the inbox which should not be filled with worry and worldly preoccupations but ready to receive the message of the Lord.

“Let’s not forget our Father’s business. Mary’s immaculate heart is ready for the message of the Lord. Let’s keep our focus on the Lord,” Abp. Valles said, adding:

“Mary is our inspiration. Nalipay siya nga naa ta.” (@dcherald)
