Natural Family Planning-The Billings Ovulation Method

FLA volunteer worker and Couples for Christ MemberOne of the most significant discoveries of the 20th century in the field of human reproduction has been that of a new natural method of family planning called the Billings Ovulation method.

Ever since, women have been trying to tackle the problem of fertility. There are women who are prolific and beget many children and would like to rest and space their births. There are those who do not want to get pregnant for other reasons. There are those who want to have children but cannot conceive for some reasons.

Now, thanks to people like Drs. John and Evelyn Billings and with the help of other eminent international scientists who took their time to scientifically research the ‘natural fertility method’, the problem of conception has somewhat been eased. And thanks to the internet because we can now easily access the information we need on the Billings ovulation method, as what I am doing. This is aside from my attendance to the seven (7) days seminar given by the Couples for Christ, five (5) days seminar given by the DOH and other seminars related to this method.

Credit is being given to Drs. John and Evelyn Billings because they spearheaded the study of this method. Hence, we call this method Billings Ovulation Method (BOM).

What is the Billings Method?

This method is free, safe, reliable, accurate and morally acceptable to all people of all nations. This wonderfully empowering method of natural family planning is used worldwide to assist women to naturally achieve or avoid conception. The BOM teaches a woman to recognize and interpret her natural signs of fertility and infertility through all her changing life stages from puberty to the menopause, including regular and irregular cycles, breastfeeding and the pre-menopause years. It is easy to learn and is successful when learned and used by a couple to avoid pregnancy and often has beneficial effects on the relationship. The BOM is also very effective in helping couples to achieve pregnancy naturally. It teaches couples to recognize when they are most fertile, giving them the best chance of achieving pregnancy. It is the intention of Dr. Lyn Billings to teach this method as simple as possible so everybody from all walks of life can understand and apply to their daily life. In local terms, we usually call the method, the ‘wet and dry’ method.

Who can use this method?

BOM can be used by all women, whether or not their cycles are regular, and at any stage of their fertile life.

Is the method successful?

Success rate is 99.9% if practitioners are properly informed and guided. All that is required is motivation, dedication and a desire to truly understand your own body.

How can I learn this method?

The Family and Life Apostolate in your parish is conducting seminars on the Billings Ovulation Method. They usually give the lecture during precana and mansibado seminars. They could also give a one-on-one teaching to whoever is really interested in knowing the method. You may contact your parish priest or any FLA member for this purpose. The FLA archdiocesan has also put up a building near Fatima parish in Davao as a natural family planning center. You may also go there. You may also search thru the internet and look for the Billings Ovulation Method and Ovulation.
