Obrero parish gets new church elevator

“The Catholic Church, founded by Jesus Christ, is also like a well from which we can draw the graces we need for our salvation. But in our parish, the water of this ‘well’ is difficult to fetch because we still have to climb the second floor. Some old people find it hard to climb the stairs of the parish church to ‘draw water from the well’, like the Samaritan woman in the Gospel. This is why, we appreciate the initiative of our parish priest, of installing this elevator that we bless today”.

With these words, Davao Archbishop Romulo G. Valles highlighted the achievement of the parishioners of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Bo. Obrero during its 44th Parochial Fiesta last June 7, 2013, as he blessed the newly-installed parish church elevator.

The archbishop congratulated all the people behind this initiative, headed by Msgr. Paul Cuison, the parish priest, saying that “indeed, if we work together, as you did in this project, we can do a lot of good for the parish and for the whole Church”.

The solemn blessing of the said equipment and of the parish belfry took place after the fiesta Mass that the archbishop presided and concelebrated by half a dozen priests.

The ceremonial ribbon-cutting, headed by Mr. Henry Evangelista, the Parish Pastoral Council, and Engr. Jun Horfilla preceded the blessing. After which the archbishop and the parish priest took the first trip going up the parish church amidst the warm applause of all present. (Fr. Russell Bantiles)
