DACS Assemble for Empowerment

“Empowering DACS to Influence National Policy to Respond to Mindanao” is the theme of the General Assembly of catholic schools under the diocese of Region XI.

Every 3rd Friday of July, school heads, presidents, directors and administrators of the 61 Catholic schools gather in Davao Association of Catholic Schools, Inc. (DACS) for their general assembly to discuss the challenges that catholic education are facing.

According to DACS Executive Director, Jimmie dela Vega, “we came up with a collective effort towards involvement regarding social issues especially in the context of Mindanao, we reflected together, we discern our directions to the coming years where we should be involve in the many issues that affect the country.”

“We are concerned about the developments, we are concerned about uplifting the conditions of our people and we believe that catholic education has a role in helping our local churches, local communities to collaborate with our government”, dela Vega added.

Furthermore, the main focus of the assembly is to raise youth leaders. “We have come to realize the importance in forming genuine young leaders. Forming our students to be more concern about the common good, education is just about themselves, it is also about uplifting their community”, dela Vega stressed.

In the process of producing young leaders they have reaffirmed their commitment, as catholic schools, to instill in their students the sense of faith. We may have a lot of leaders, those who are competent and those who know a lot but may not have been fully molded as far as their faith is concern.

“Students will learn the basics of their faith, it will be easy for them to determine what is right and what is wrong, and hopefully they will have the moral strength to choose the right thing over the wrong.” dela Vega said.
