CROSS TV: Living the Faith, Knowing the Truth

The newly installed Archbishop of Davao City Most Reverend Archbishop Romulo G. Valles, D.D. in his homily during the Baccalaureate Mass had encouraged the graduates to become living witnesses of God’s truth and love, guided by the school’s motto, “Ex Fide Ad Veritatem” to mean “From Faith to Truth.”

BUILDING THE PORTALS

In 1956 the Religious of the Virgin Mary or RVM started the school’s operation. Then, the Foreign Mission Society of Quebec (PME Fathers) strengthened and improved this institution from 1957-1976. From 1976 up to the present time, the Archdiocese of Davao is still building on the traditions of its predecessors and expanding to make Holy Cross of Davao College, Inc. a prime college in the city of Davao, providing affordable quality Catholic education not only to the people of the city but also to the neighbouring provinces. For this we are thankful.
Last year, the school launched it’s official embodiment of its VMG, “I AM HOLY CROSS”.

VMG OF HCDC
It pronounces that the Holy Cross Davao College, Inc. (HCDC) is a community of Christ-centered evangelizers educated in the faith and animated by the passion of truth, justice, peace and service.
As members of this Filipino Archdiocesan educational institution, it commits itself to promote quality Catholic education to all, especially the less fortunate, and to create through dialogue a Christian environment for the integral formation of persons who will be effective agents of social transformation.

THE CROSS TV
HCDC extends its service down to the ‘grassroots’ of the campus. The grassroots refer to students, faculty, administration, and employees of Holy Cross of Davao College, Inc.
Reaching out to more audiences outside its portals, the power of social media has been thought of bringing into life – CROSS TV.
CROSS TV is an online television via the website of Holy Cross of Davao College, Inc (http://www.hcdc.edu.ph) created to evangelize to be launched on September 13, 2013.
Mass Communication alumnus, local TV host and now a teacher, Prof. Derf Maiz said that he conceptualized this new project based on the tagline, “I AM HOLY CROSS”.
Mr. Maiz quipped, “The CROSS TV will shoulder the implementation of ‘I AM HOLY CROSS.’ In fact, the HCDC President Rev. Msgr. Julius Rodulfa has issued a memo to me on the follow up move after it was launched last year.”
I AM HOLY CROSS started as a concept in one of his projects in his TV Production class, but the idea was absorbed by the administration. His 8-year stint at GMA Davao has strengthened this passion to open a TV online.

THE CROSS AND THE MEDIA
The feast of the Holy Cross of Davao College serves as a great avenue in launching this activity. The HCDC community celebrates the Exultation of the Cross in honor of the Cross. Also known as the feast of the Holy Cross Day or the Triumph of the Cross celebrated every September 14, a gathering once again of alumni, faculty, employees and students of the school.
Believing on the need of this stakeholders’ for an audio-video programs that can evangelize faster online, the opening of Cross TV is a manifestation of another “Living the Faith, Knowing the Truth” move as Abp. Valles envisioned everyone to become living witnesses of God’s truth and love, this time via social media.
The CROSS TV will stay after a year or more. Right now, 60 of his students are in control. They already had their shooting since June of this year.
Coupled with unceasing prayers in the call to leadership and stewardship , HCDC will continue to be a Home of Catholic Formation in the Archdiocese of Davao. Its light will continue to serve as the “Bearer of Word to the World,” and the Cross TV will make it faster, wider and stronger.
By the way, I am a proud graduate of HCDC! Mabuhay!
