Divine Mercy Sunday
Put mercy to action!
Such is the invitation of the Feast of Mercy to each one of us, which, the Church celebrates today. Even if one is not a devotee of the Divine Mercy but as a baptized Christian and Catholic the call of mercy beckons us to concretize it in our day to day living with our family, friends and community: “by deed, word, or prayer.”
Easter Sunday has just been celebrated where, together with Christ, we rise from death (a result of sin) to life (true repentance and penance have afforded us). Resurrection is victory which Christ has won for us. How do we make this experience of resurrection tangible in our daily life? It is by reflecting in our lives the image of a resurrected Christ: forgiving and life-giving.
Each one of us has received the greatest gift of all: God’s only Son, Jesus Christ. “…God manifested his love for us: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us and we have become just through his blood” (Rom 5:8-9). It is mercy that we received from the Lord so it is mercy that we give to others, too.
On this Feast of Divine Mercy, our Lord recommends to us that we “run through the whole world and lead souls that fainted away to the source of My Mercy.” Let us remember then that we were once dead because of sin and now are alive because of his love and mercy. We have received his mercy and so therefore in thanksgiving let us give mercy to others, too.
Let us now pray together and implore God’s mercy with faith and abandonment: JESUS, KING OF MERCY, I TRUST IN YOU!
