Same Mary, different names

The Blessed Mother Mary is the figure in the history of salvation who has the most number of names attributed to her.

Queen of Peace, Mother of Perpetual Help, Our Lady of Sorrows, and other names are among the titles that we attribute to her, depending on the teaching or dogma attached to her name.

Though some have lesser or no canonical status, we Catholics continued our devotion to Mama Mary, with some becoming a popular piety especially for the Filipinos.

Aside from that, Mary has been depicted in different forms of art with the popular Madonna and the Child, Pieta, as among the famous works of art.

In the local Church of Davao, parishes have been named in honor of her like St. Mary of the Perpetual Rosary, Immaculate Conception in Mintal and Peñaplata, and others. In Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Obrero, different images of the Blessed Mother are enshrined inside the parish grounds to honor the Mother of Jesus.

No doubt, Mary has been a part of our history. She is the Mother of Christ, Mother of our Savior. She is the Mother of us all whom we know in different names but the same mother who will take care of her children.

If our biological mothers can give their all just to raise their children and give their needs, how much more can our Mother can give who is in heaven listening and interceding to our prayers. Had it not been for her yes to God’s will, our story of salvation would not have been the same.
