‘Ablaze’ Event Fired Up Davao’s Singles and Youth

Closed to 500 has attended their 1st organized-conference held at the Holy Cross of Davao College, Inc. July of last year.  The Lord’s Flock community couple, Bro. Al and Sis. Mik Flores, has led again the staging of the 2nd Singles and Youth Faith and Fire Conference, Ablaze Keep the Fire Burning last June 21, at the CAP Auditorium.

Doubling the number in 2014, a thousand young people from US, Hongkong, Davao, Bislig, Tagum, and other parts of the country sang, jumped, played and won prizes as they encountered the Lord in the event.  This interview with the couple will tell you how and why they  chose in this ministry.

HERALD:How did you start your involvement here at the Lord’s Flock?

Sis Mik:At first I was just dragged along by my parents kasi they are one of the founders of the community. Later on, I found the value of community, and going to Church once a week is not enough. Hinahanap hanap din talaga ang service.

Bro. Al Flores: I was also dragged along by my parents at first, but eventually I realized that if you follow the example of Christ, everything will fall into place.

HERALD: Why did you decide to bring this Conference to Davao?

Mik: The objective of the Youth Faith and Fire Conference is to call all the singles and youth to come forward encouraging towards faith…youth to be on fire and bring the youth to Church. When the youth is already fired up we want them to be ablaze, keeping their love, passion for God, and the faith on fire. We want the youth to be still involved in the church or in their own communities even after the event, sharing the challenges to the community or parishes in order to surpass them.  Some challenges include some things that “extinguish their faith for God.”   If you don’t have a community yet, we invite you to join us.

Al:Due to the success of this event in Manila resulting to an increase in the population of the youth, we decided to bring it here in Davao. We opt to hold the event in Davao because the leaders of the chapters here saw the need to fire up the youth inviting them through music bringing out their own genre and at the same time deviating from the idea of “boring Church” transforming the image of the Church as youthful and alive. Actually we are expecting a thousand participants just to be optimistic.

To attract the youth like this, we give them the music their age…this is the way of introducing to them that the Church is here, youthful, alive and it is for you.

HERALD: Do you think a Praise and Worship Radio program will help you promote your community?

Of course, makakatulong sa Lord’s Flock ito since our community is open to all ages. Music and worship really does something great to someone.

HERALD:  Any message to all who are still looking for a community?

Mik and Al: Just try it out, have a leap of faith. The first step always brings you to greatness, but you have to do that step by step. We welcome everybody, the more the merrier. Our community caters the whole family, kids, singles, professional, biyuda, biyudo, (single parents).
