HCDC Mass Communication Helps Isla Verde, Boulevard Fire Victims

The Holy Cross of Davao College Inc., extended its helping hands to the victims of fire incident at Isla Verde, Boulevard, Davao City last May.

Through the initiative of Mass Communication Principles of Marketing and Advertising and Theater Theories and Production summer class students of 2014 under the supervision of Mrs. Fe Dahlia Reoma and Mr. Mark Roel Narreto, respectively, part of the estimated 3,000 homeless and hopeless residents received help.

This only proved that to communicate, words are not enough but actions as well.

“Alon: Sayaw at Awit ng Magdaragat”

Last May 10, in celebration of the Ocean Month and in partnership with Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region XI, MC5 produced a theatrical presentation entitled “Alon: Sayaw at Awit ng Magdaragat”, a concert for a cause, which gathered proceeds amounting to PHP 16,893 which they generously allotted, in the form of relief goods, to the victims of the said fire incident who are at the evacuation centers (Brgy. 5A, Bankerohan and Gov. Duterte).

More than a hundred plastic bags filled with hygienic needs and rice were distributed.  This was in partnership with the City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO) with representative Rey Tayag.  Despite of the limited supply of relief goods given them, the beneficiaries still considered them as ample help.

Beneficiary Florcetida Ibañez said, “Salamat lang g’yud nga natagaan mi aning rasyon ninyo. Bisan gamay lang, nalipay jud mi.”

Another house owner, Arsenio Sauza, added, “Daghang salamat sa gihatag nga tabang sa amoa…Dako na kaayong tabang sa amoa.   Salamat kaayo sa inyong tanan.”

This activity is serves as an example as students not only limit themselves to academic endeavor but to extend community service, too.
