HCDC Teacher Wins Power of Goodness Award and Php 10,000

Arvin Ortiz, teacher at the High School Dept. of the Holy Cross of Davao College in Bajada, Davao City, won the Power of Goodness Award plus the prize of ten thousand pesos for writing a beautiful short story. It is included in the present issue of Davao Catholic Herald. (See page 2)

The winning entry, among the 13 other stories, was received in the <goodnessteam2005@gmail.com>, the email address of the Goodness Exchange Team (GET) headed by Archbishop Emeritus Fernando R. Capalla. More entries are being received.

The group has been promoting for several years the power of extraordinary acts of goodness. It is composed of Alex Buenaventura, ONB president, Leonila Baby” Coquilla, PNB regional manager, Nicole Fernandez, construction engineer, Jimmy Loe de la Vega, educator & DACS executive director, Fr. Ritsche Gamaya, Davao Catholic Herald editor, and Lou Q. Solijon, National Coordinator of the Secular Institute of the Daughters of Saint Anne. GET uses the internet to promote the power of Goodness, thus helping the Church’s mission in social communication through hitech devices and gadgets.

Alvin Ortiz received his award and the 10,000 cash prize at the Ascension Parish Fiesta Mass presided by Archbishop Capalla and attended by the GET members. The Catholic Church celebrates annually the World Communication Sunday on the Feast of the Lord’s Ascension which was last Sunday, 1 June 2014.

The Bible narrates that minutes before ‘ascending into the heavens’ the Risen Lord gave to the Apostles the mandate to communicate the Good News (Mt.26:16-20).
