‘Serving in Caritas Davao is a fulfilling life’

Seeing that majority of volunteers of Caritas Davao Foundation, Inc. who are mostly in their 60s, the Director of Caritas Davao said that serving Caritas Davao is a life that is fulfilling.

During the 42nd anniversary of Caritas Davao last June 13, Fr. Nestor Dalumpines said serving as volunteer of Caritas Davao gives new meaning to the life of the volunteers who are mostly senior citizens, adding that it gives them a sense of fulfillment every time they come to their respective parishes and serve other people in charity.

Fr. Dalumpines recounted that before he attended the said celebration which was held at Teresian Daughters of Mary compound, he officiated a funeral mass of a deceased who was still young. He said that in Caritas Davao, volunteers are getting older and they are still actively supporting the ministry.

The celebration was also a tribute to the founder of Caritas Davao Foundation, the late Archbishop of Davao Antonio Ll. Mabutas. Volunteers prayed for him during the Holy Eucharist officiated by Msgr. Abel Apigo, rector of St. Francis Xavier Regional Major Seminary, who presided over the mass in place of Archbishop Romulo Valles who has attended a prior commitment.

The volunteers also rendered songs to honor Archbishop Mabutas, who hails from Agoo, La Union. He was born on June 13, 1921. He would have been 93 today.

Caritas Davao is located at the back of San Pedro Cathedral Parish. For years, it has served many residents of Davao City who asked for financial assistance for medical expenses, medicines and other needs. They are also teaching the poor how to harness herbal medicines through their trainings, aside from other programs that aim to uplift the present situation of the poor and the needy.
