Viva San Pedro!

The first parish of our Archdiocese is San Pedro Parish. Its fiesta used to be the biggest social and religious event of the city. The Hijos de Davao, the oldest and most prominent social club composed of all the old Dabawenyo families hold their biggest party on the June 29 fiesta which opens with the Rigodon de Honor. The June 29 procession was the longest and biggest in the city.

On March 16, 1967 the city celebrated the creation of the city called Araw ng Dabaw which lasted for a week. On August 16, 1985 the city celebrated the Kadayawan Festival focusing on the Lumads’ religious thanksgiving for a good harvest. The three events do not compete with each other. Since the 1967 Araw ng Davao and the 1985 Kadayawan, today, there are less social athletic and social functions on June 29. The procession becomes shorter because there were less participants. The old families whose houses were near the San Pedro church (mostly in the streets of Claveria, Bolton, Rizal, San Pedro) no longer join the procession. The St. Peter’s school for boys and the Immaculate Conception College are not in the parish compound anymore.

However, the zeal and devotion of the new breed of San Pedro parokyanos remain strong. The link between the 36 other parishes of the archdiocese and the San Pedro parish created through love, tradition and faith will never break.

Viva! San Pedro
