Dennis a. Uy SFX Remase Gym: Seminary’s Dream-Come-True Blessed!

The new state of the art gymnasium of the Regional Major Seminary of Mindanao, named after Mr. Dennis A. Uy, president of Phoenix Philippines, was finally blessed and inaugurated last September 8, 2014, on the occasion of the birthday of the Blessed Mother Mary.

The ceremony started with a short rite of cutting the ribbon, followed by the blessing and the unveiling of the marker and the official name of the gymnasium, after which was the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.Archbishop Romulo Valles of Davao was the ministering Prelate, along with the presence of Bishop Wilfredo Manlapaz of Tagum.

“It all started with just a simple dream of roofing our old open court, so that seminarians can still have their games whether it is rainy or sunny day,” Msgr. Abel C. Apigo, REMASE rector, recalled as he related the story of how the long-dreamt gymnasium came into a reality.
Fr. Reiner Frankie, SVD, the REMASE procurator, was previously quoted as saying that “for you it is a dream, but for me it is a nightmare…” But now, what has been thought as a gruesome nightmare has become a beautiful dream-come true!

With the Regional Major Seminary of Mindanao coming to its golden years of existence, it is just about time that it has to upgrade its facilities. And no doubt this Dennis A. Uy SFX REMASE gym would greatly help in the whole process of the seminary formation.

As Msgr. Apigo said, the new gymnasium will not only be where seminarians could play, it would also serve as the venue whenever there are big events and gatherings in the seminary such as Alumni Homecoming, Metro Xavier Fiesta, Pastoral Day and the like.

During the mass, Archbishop Valles said in his homily that the quality of seminary formation is crucial for the future of the Church. The building of this new gymnasium, he said, would no doubt add to the quality of seminary formation offered by REMASE.

As the head of the seminary Board of Directors, Archbishop Valles personally thanked Mr. Dennis Uy and all the other major sponsors, and lay counterparts, for supporting the Church. He said that as the Seminary is the heart of the diocese, REMASE can be said as the heart of the Church in Southern Mindanao. Consequently, this new gymnasium is not only a gift to REMASE but also a gift to the Church of the Southern part of Mindanao.

Indeed the REMASE Administration, the formators and seminarians alike, are very much thankful to God for the realization of this seemingly impossible dream.

To all the benefactors of REMASE, the Seminary will truly remember you always in its individual and communal prayer!

To god be the highest honor and glory!
