Happy Birthday, Mama Mary!

What  gift can you give Our Lady on the occasion of her birthday? If you have not thought of it yet, you still have time. Tomorrow, September 8, is the feast day of her birth.

A heartfelt greeting, sincere and true, is most fitting. But  in what  manner  can we truly express that sincerity is by imitating her ways.  She has given us the best example of her life, a life lived in humility and total obedience to the Will of the Father.

“Do whatever He tells you” was her confident instructions to the waiters at the wedding feast in Cana where she and Jesus were invited. She did not want the newlyweds to be embarrassed when they run out of wine. It is the same exhortation she tells us when we resort to her intercession. She assures us of her help and directs us to her Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ and say, “Do whatever He tells you.”

As we celebrate her birthday, the best gift we could give her is to heed her maternal exhortation:

“Do whatever Christ tells us.”
