Cardinal Quevedo talks about Evangelii Gaudium with religious men and women

The Archbishop of Cotabato, Orlando Cardinal Quevedo has spoken to the religious men and women from different parts of the country about Pope Francis latest pastoral exhortation, Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel).

Evangelii Gaudium is the Pope’s exhortation addressed to the bishops, clergy, consecrated persons and the lay faithful on the proclamation of the Gospel in Today’s World.

Held at the Jubilee Building of Ateneo de Davao University, hundreds of religious men and women, majority coming from the Davao Region have listened to Cardinal Quevedo as he gave his reflection and outline of Evangelii Gaudium last September 19.

Cardinal Quevedo said Pope Francis has emphasized Mercy always in his statements, adding the Church should always be compassionate and should be welcoming with an open heart.

The cardinal has cited examples like how the church should address things like not baptizing a child due to the fact that his or her parents are not married in the Church, saying:

“Should we punish the child due to the sins of his parents?”

On the other hand, the cardinal also gave some reminders to the religious men and women present regarding the challenges of today’s world wherein there’s inequality and exclusion in the economy:

“Do you change your laptop because it’s outdated? Do you change your watch every two years?” Cardinal Quevedo quipped.

The Cardinal delivered his reflection from 9:00 to 12:00 noon on that day. The forum was organized by the Sisters’ Association in Mindanao (SAMIN).

Evangelii Gaudium is divided into three chapters namely: I. A joy ever new, a joy which is shared, II. The delightful and comforting joy of evangelizing, and III. The new evangelization for the transmission of the faith. (@johnfrancesf)
