Mati launches ‘Awuyon Baganga’

The Social Action Center of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Mati, together with The Order of the Ministers of the Infirms-Philippine Province, and Camillian Task Force launched the “Awuyon Baganga” Agro-Forestry and Livelihood Project last March 19, 2015 at Lambajon, Baganga, Davao Oriental.

The event started with a Eucharistic Celebration which was officiated by its Parish Priest Fr. Darwey P. Clark, concelebrated by General Service Head of Camillus Hospital Fr. Marven Ruyeras, MI, Director Fr. Angel Crisostomo, MI, and Provincial Superior Fr. Rolly Fernandez, MI.

The project was developed to offer assistance to the people of Baganga who experienced the wrath of Typhoon on December 4, 2012.

“Awuyon” means to enter into agreement or mutual understanding, just like the commonly known “Bayanihan”, the said project aims to help provide income and food security to its people. It is also a collaboration of the both government and non-government units such as Department of Agriculture, Philippine Coconut Authority, Fiber Industry Development Authority, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Agrarian Reform and the 67 Infantry Battalion of Baganga, Davao Oriental.

Agroforestry or agro-sylviculture is a land use management system in which trees or shrubs are grown around or among crops or pastureland. It combines agricultural and forestry technologies to create more diverse, productive, profitable, healthy, and sustainable land-use systems.
