Serra Club of Davao Attends Serra Philippines 25th National Convention (Part 2 of 2)
The convention started with a concelebrated Traveler’s Mass at the Parish of Christ the Eucharistic King with Most Rev. Wilfredo D. Manlapaz, DD, SThD., Bishop of Tagum as main celebrant and homilist.
Tagum City Mayor Hon. Allan L. Rellon, DPA as Guest of Honor welcomed the participants to Tagum City with an inspiring message. Fun and laughter echoed during the Welcome Dinner and Opening Program especially during raffle draw time and club presentation.
A Eucharistic Mass by Rev. Fr. Arnulfo C. Tiplaca, Rector, Queen of Apostles College Seminary opened the plenary sessions in Day 2. The topics presented by resource speakers enlightened the minds and hearts of the Serrans: “The Future of Vocation passes through the Family” by His Eminence Orlando B. Cardinal Quevedo, OMI, DD, Archbishop of Cotabato, “Genuine Reforms, A Call to Holiness” by Rev. Fr. Ronelo G. Bentayao, Associate Parish Priest, Parish of Christ the Eucharistic King, “Transformation Leadership, A New Paradigm” by Rev. Fr. Jose Ariel V. Garcia, Parish Priest, St. Vincent Ferrer Parish in Maragusan, ComVal Province.
During the Dinner and Fellowship Night, Serran Teresita R. Canete, PP, PDG, President, Serra Council of the Philippines delivered her State of Serra followed by the installation of newly-elected officers SY 2015-2017. The Serra Club of Davao takes pride as Pres. Norma J. Tuballa and PP Maria Julieta R. Torres were elected and installed as District Governor and District Governor-Elect for District 96-A. Pres. Canete awarded plaques of recognition to all Serra Clubs.
A Thanksgiving Mass was celebrated by Fr. Marlon L. Pates, Director, Diocesan Vocation Apostolate at the New Christ the King Cathedral in Day 3. A guided city tour was experienced by the delegates and ended by lunch sponsored by the Davao del Norte Provincial Government headed by Hon. Rodolfo P. del Rosario, Governor, Province of Davao del Norte.
Since it was founded in 1935, in Seattle, Washington, U.S.A., Serra has chartered 1,170 Serra Clubs in 46 countries on six continents.
Serra’s objectives and purposes are:
- To foster and promote vocations to the ministerial priesthood in the Catholic Church as a particular vocation to service, and to support priests in their sacred ministry;
- To encourage and affirm vocations to consecrated religious life in the Catholic Church;
- To assist its members to recognize and respond in their own lives to God’s call to holiness in Jesus Christ and through the Holy Spirit.
