From simple home cooked dishes for the family to now known and loved delicacies in the city, Davao City’s very own Cecil’s Snack Inn and Bakeshoppe is one of the must-go and must-try places in the metro. Inescapable with its 11 branches all over Davao and an undoubtedly irresistible menu that you’ll certainly hear wherever you go.

Just like how sweet their pastries are, the story of how it all began sprung from a mother’s love and passion for cooking.

The year was 1963, Rosita Ginoo, a housewife and mother, made a living out of her skills in cooking within their household. As years passed, her little business progressed and together with her husband, Nazario Ginoo, they made a small store filled with homemade goodies. And in 1971 they named it after their seventh and youngest child at that time, Maria Cecilia Ginoo.

Now 52 years later and run by the Ginoos’ 9 children and their families, Cecil’s has garnered success after success, from putting their name in the map to garnering notable awards. Though despite all these they have remained humble and true to their product. As one loyal customer of 15 years certified that through the years Cecil’s has maintained and even improved some of their delicacies, while batting a special eye for their pancit luglug and moist cake.

A staff member of 23 years, Ellene Piagolahas has seen satisfied customers as they come and go and come back for more. She said, “Some customers even come here twice a day, one in the morning, and then in the afternoon.”

This store not only has loyal customers, but as well as a loyal and satisfied staff. Jona Lozada, Cecil’s HR officer for 20 years said, “They extend all they can in order to help.”

Having employees that are no less than 8 years at their service, this has proven how this whole corporation is a family. And what better food that comes from a family itself?

With this in mind it’s no doubt that Cecil’s Snack Inn and Bakeshoppe indeed has the approval of the city. (Kryssha Nismal)
