Prayer Warriors of the Holy Souls

THREE years ago, a motley group of mostly women gathered for a meeting with Manila-based Chita Monfort, wife of the late Narciso D. Monfort, founder of the Prayer Warriors of the Holy Souls. A common love for the holy souls brought them together. Soon after, officers were inducted by Davao Archbishop Romulo G. Valles, D.D. at the San Pedro Cathedral. Thus, the PWHS-Davao Chapter was born.

Now, 2015, some familiar faces still give life to its activities, plus new faces the Holy Souls sent to the chapter for added vigor.

The chapter has faithfully met every 2nd Monday of each month, at 10:00 o’clock in the morning at the San Pedro Cathedral side hall.

Business matters planned and discussed, the members celebrate the noon mass, and share lunch after. A second noon mass per month is offered for the Holy Souls every first Saturday at the Sta. Ana Shrine.

All monthly second Monday masses are intended for: the repose of souls of all those who perished in major present and past calamities during that particular month, souls of departed PWHS members, to honor saints devoted to the Holy Souls whose feast day falls on that particular month, and for all living members of PWHS and their families.

Aside from these masses, PWHS-Davao Chapter also participate as sponsor in feast day masses of some parishes in Davao City. It has Lenten and Advent recollections, March of Saints in lieu of Halloween, and the yearly national congress.

The chapter was the sponsor of the 4:30pm mass during the San Pedro Cathedral fiesta. The organization will have its national congress in Iloilo on July 24.

On its June 22 3rd year anniversary mass at the Sta. Ana Shrine side chapel, PWHS Spiritual Director Fr. Joel Caasi spoke of his gratitude to GOD for this group, especially for last year’s March of the Saints in his parish, promising a bigger and better one this year.

“By virtue of our baptism, we share in the priestly function of all Christians when we pray for the Holy Souls,” he said. God’s grace has never failed us through the inspiration of Fr. Caasi. His love for the Holy Souls is contagious, as he congratulated the PWHSians for this special and unique apostolate.

We cannot thank God enough for calling us to PWHS. Be blessed like us, and join us as we pray: ETERNAL FATHER, WE OFFER YOU THE MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD OF YOUR DIVINE SON JESUS, IN UNION WITH ALL THE HOLY MASSES SAID THROUGHOUT THE WORLD TODAY; FOR ALL THE HOLY SOULS IN PURGATORY, FOR SINNERS EVERYWHERE, FOR SINNERS IN YOUR UNIVERSAL CHURCH, THOSE IN OUR OWN HOMES, AND WITHIN OUR FAMILIES. Amen! To God be all glory forever! (Bella Sarenas)
