Flores de Mayo
Again, starting May 1, we see children going to our GKKs bringing with them flowers, rosaries, fruits and other things they can offer to Mama Mary. With excitement and wonder, they listen to the basic teachings of our faith, especially on Marian doctrines, learn how to pray the rosary together, deepen their devotion to and offer songs and flowers to the Blessed Mother.
Credit goes to our catechists who are volunteers themselves. Rain or shine, in season and out of season, from the plains of the mountains, they equip themselves with trainings and programs prepared by our very own John XXIII Catechetical Center of the Archdiocese of Davao, headed by Msgr. Maximo Sarno, to ensure sound teaching. Their selfless dedication reflects the humility and trust of Mama Mary.
“Lay people who are capable and trained may also collaborate in catechetical formation, in teaching the sacred sciences, and in use of communications media” (CCC 906). Fulfilling their mission of teaching, our catechists, in schools and GKKs lighten the load of our Parish priests as pastors of the flock. Their witness inspire the young to become good Christians.
May our catechists who introduce Mama Mary to our youth lead us closer to Christ.
