Father’s Day

It is said that children remember their mothers most in terms of their affection, and fathers admittedly play second fiddle in this area of rearing. However, father compensate by their examples of their virtue called fortitude.

Dear Fathers, the late Bishop Fulton Sheen remarked that the greatest tragedy of our time is the countless sacrifices wasted. A sacrifice is like mortification, and is best expressed intently in loving deeds. A sweet sacrifice, say, a visit to out lola whom we love as a thanksgiving and adoration to God for landing a good job. Or rather, as an atonement couples with a petition to overcome a particular sin. This may sound like the medieval period as it may be called asceticism, but Scriptures are very clear on this – prayers and sacrifices are pleasing to God.

Our children will find more meaning in their lives as they do loving acts, and this, let us seek our Blessed Mother who witnessed how her spouse, St. Joseph, spent the time teaching Jesus to bear daily sacrifices and contradictions out of love. Many fathers have done the same, countless of times, we just missed the value of it. Let us not waste it next time.
