PADRE PIO

St. Padre Pio and Poverty

PADRE PIOLast September 20 was the centennial anniversary of Padre Pio’s reception of the stigmata and last September 23 was his 50th death anniversary.

Padre Pio lived in poverty as he always trusted in the strength and consolation of the Lord in bearing the stigmata. Persevering Jesus with whom he shared such suffering, Padre Pio humbly trusted the Lord in bearing the sins of the faithful.

As people came to him for confession, nobody could have lied in front of him. His devotion to the Eucharist makes people become spiritually naked when they face him. Such was the experience of many who cherished the healing compassion of Jesus through this great saint.

As we celebrate Extreme Poverty Day and Sunday for Cultures, let the life and inspiration of St. Padre Pio be our guide. Let our poverty bring us the joy of surrender to the providence of God. May our suffering lead us to be more compassionate to those who need our consolation.

“Pray, hope and don’t worry.”
