Many of us think that conversion is a one time event like that of St. Paul’s, born out of an encounter with the Lord. Radical change can be a drawn out affair since to begin again and again can be frustrating. However, if we look at the lives of the saints, their humility and utmost dependence on God made possible the constancy of their conversion process. They are saints because they say “Yes!” to God’s will, but behind this process is a constant falling and getting up experience. These reformations may be painful, but the “I” will eventually transform one according to the “Potter’s hand.” (Jer. 18:6)

Moreover, we are a creature of habits and comforts. These attachments can sometimes be difficult to weed out. St. Paul had to run the race to sanctity and had to struggle to constantly reform himself by which the Lord bluntly replied to his appeal — “My grace is sufficient for you.” (2 Cor. 12:9)

Truly, grace abounds and we only need to correspond as our struggle will lead us to freedom. After all, Christ promised us that He will always be with us till the end of age (Mt 28:20). Let us have faith, trust, and courage. Never let go of the hand of our Blessed Mother who will always take us to her Son.
