mother hand and baby feet mother and childDear KNOT,

I’m a very supportive single mother. I need your advice, KNOT.

Salamat,

Bing

Dear Bing,

It is indeed a parent’s greatest desire to provide the best for his/her children especially the opportunity to obtain a good education so as to uplift their quality of life in the future. However, this crumbles to the ground when, along the journey, a life changing event happens such as a daughter’s pregnancy. Frustration, anger, blaming, endless “why” questions, etc., are but initial reactions to this kind of situation. This is expected and understandable. When the steam of emotion subsides, reality has to be dealt with.

Your daughter’s condition is also laden with loads of emotions — fear, anxiety, sadness, uncertainties, confusion, anticipation, etc. Considering her tender age as a teen, this is the very moment she needs someone to lean on for support and the closest persons she can turn to is none other than her family. She is carrying another life, a helpless human being within her. Being her mother, you just have to be strong for her too, as you lend that support with acceptance and compassion. In whatever manner this baby has come into your lives, even if unexpected, this is still God’s gift.

When God closes the door, He opens the windows for His graces and blessings to come in. Make the most of this situation even as you provide the best for the young mother and child given the resources you have. In the midst of these trials be assured of God’s words when He said, “My grace is enough for you”.

Nurture the mother and the unborn child with the same unconditional love that God bestows on them. With positive outlook and anticipation for its birth, surely this baby will turn out to be the sunshine of the family. It may be an irony but in life, sometimes God writes straight with crooked lines.

God bless you.
