Divine Mercy Sunday
St. Faustina Kowalska promoted the devotion to the Divine Mercy. She was canonized by St. John Paul II on April 30, 2000.
The Congregation for Divine Worship decreed that “throughout the world, the second Sunday of Easter will receive the name Divine Mercy Sunday, a perennial invitation to the Christian World to face, with confidence in divine benevolence, the difficulties and trials that humankind will experience in the years to come.”
In the midst of natural calamities, like the earthquake that happened in Metro Manila and other countries, we need to invoke God’s mercy. In times of killings of innocent people, like the recent tragedy in Sri Lanka, we run to the mercy of God. When conflicts and wars come, like that in Libya, we pray for forgiveness and peace.
Pope Francis says: “Nothing of what a repentant sinner places before God’s mercy can be excluded from the embrace of his forgiveness. For this reason, none of us has the right to make forgiveness conditional.”
Jesus, King of mercy, we trust in you!
