Solemnity of Saint Peter

editorial solemnity of St. PeterWhat an honor it is for us to have St. Peter as patron of the Archdiocese of Davao. He is known as spokesman for the Twelve, Prince of the Apostles and patron of those in fishing industry.

Like St. Peter, our servant-leaders are weak human beings, who having committed sins, try their best to rise up from where they have fallen. His story is also their story. They are tempted and have given in but they are chosen to continue lead the flock that Jesus entrusted to them.

The humble example of St. Peter reminds each one of us, on the one hand, to admit our imperfections, to accept coaching and be willing to learn from our mistakes. On the other hand, we must take courage that it is not out of our own power but God’s power that we are given the responsibility and task of evangelization.

We pray for the shortcomings of our dear servant-leaders in the church. We also pray for patience and understanding. And, we pray for each one’s share of spreading the faith despite our limitations.

St. Peter pray for us!
