CBCP Servant Leadership
Leadership in the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) is a leadership among leaders. Each of the members is not only a leader but a successor of the apostles. Thus, it is a tough job to lead among leaders who are invested with power in the midst of human weakness.
“Conscious of his own weaknesses, the bishop… can have compassion for those who are ignorant and erring. He should not refuse to listen to his subjects whose welfare he promotes as of his very own children… The faithful… should be closely attached to the bishop as the Church is to Jesus Christ, and as Jesus Christ is to the Father” (CCC 896).
As we congratulate our dear Archbishop of Davao and re-elected CBCP President, the Most Rev. Romulo G. Valles, D.D., the call to pray more is upon us since our nation needs leaders who know how to “use words when necessary” because “to be kind is more important than to be right. Many times what people need is not a brilliant mind that speaks but a kind heart that listens.” History will judge whether CBCP leadership is a leadership that unites and not divide, one that enlightens and not confuses.
Congratulations Archbishop Romulo G. Valles, D.D.!
