Nutrition Month

nutrition month editorialHow many people, young and old, die of malnutrition in the Philippines every year? How can we celebrate more meaningfully this year’s Nutrition Month? What still can we do as Church to help promote healthy lifestyle?

The Archdiocesan Nourishment Center of the Archdiocese of Davao concretely and continually feeds malnourished children from nearby areas of Fatima and San Pedro Cathedral parishes. Thanks to our available medical doctors, generous benefactors and selfless volunteers who accompany Msgr. Paul Cuison, Director of the center, in its daily care for the little ones.

Given some statistics of the need for equitable distribution of healthy food, our programs in both government and NGOs must include support in healthy food production and proper rationing. Moreover, care for the environment and practice of the virtue of temperance to avoid all kinds of excess must be taught. Each citizen must grow and reach maturity in the concern for a healthy diet.

“Life and physical health are precious gifts entrusted to us by God. We must take reasonable care of them, taking into account the needs of others and the common good” (CCC 2288).
