GKK Tagum 50th

Tagum Diocese marks the 50th year of GKK — A way of being Church in this part of Mindanao.

Time flies so fast, we don’t even know that Gagmayng Kristohanong Katilingban is now celebrating its golden jubilee.

October 12, 2019 was the day that the Lord has made because the Diocese of Tagum celebrated the 50th Anniversary or the Golden Jubilee of Basic Ecclesial Community, or also known as Gagmayng Kristohanong Katilingban or GKK, participated by the different apostolates in different Parochial communities.

It was a great story how GKK was built in the Diocese in 1968. Gagmayng Kristohanong Katilingban was founded by the first Missionary priests in Tagum. However BEC or GKK has important characteristic; first, these are small communities whose members are in unity and solidarity with one another. Second, the members share the Word of God and are guided by regular catechesis. Third, the communities gather around the Eucharist and have a vibrant celebration of life in the liturgy. Fourth, they share not only their spiritual concerns but also the material concerns; and, lastly, they emerge among the poor and empower the poor.

According to Bp. Medil Aseo, Bishop of Tagum, he shared his moments as he grew up as part of the Gagmayng Kristohanong Katilingban. He saw the beauty of people inside the church and how people are responsible in every position they have. Bishop Aseo also shared that when he was a child, he already participated in any activity in their GKK and that was his first step of having a close relationship with God. Moreover, the GKK helped him to strengthen his vocation. Bishop Aseo was also very grateful seeing those people who attended the event because he knew that all of them are still active and faithful in their respective GKKs.

When the panag-ambitay started, one of the youth answered the question how he was grateful as part of their GKK, saying that he’s very much thankful because GKK brought him closer to God and know Him more.

It was indeed a tremendous experience for those who attended the said event. (Earnarose Cadungog | Diocese of Tagum)
